RANGEFINDERS

Laser vs GPS

Bushnell Tour V2 Tournament Edition Rangefinder
Rangefinders are a very popular Holiday gift item…with so many options out there it can be very confusing. To simplify the process I would recommend the following if you are considering a new rangefinder:
If you only play a few courses that you are quite familiar with then I recommend the Laser…If you know the course layout well and want to focus on yardages to the flag and general yardages to hazards and landmarks then Laser is the way to go. Very simple with no need for downloads and subscriptions. My recommendation is a Bushnell Tour V2 Tournament Edition (see image).

Golf Buddy World Platinum GPS
If you play many different courses locally or like to travel and want the full ‘beta’ on a course then GPS is the way to go. You will get accurate yardages to and over hazards, front of green and back of green yardages and most GPS units feature a movable crosshair to place the flag to get a relatively accurate yardage to the flag. Sky Caddie are the benchmark for GPS units but do require downloads from a computer and carry yearly subscription costs. I personally use a Sky Caddie SG 2.5 and have had good success with the unit. If you want to keep it simple and not have to deal with downloads/yearly fees then I recommend the Golf Buddy World Platinum GPS (see image). Before you purchase I would recommend you check the GPS website to see if the course or courses you intend to play are in their database.
I hope this helps provide a bit more clarity on which unit is best for you…if you have any further questions about Rangefinders, please do not hesitate to contact me at the store 604-980-8899 or by email info@peakgolf.ca.
